Cameron Demetre

Founder & Principal

Cameron Demetre helps companies navigate complex regulatory environments, manage political risk, and engage effectively in the state’s policymaking process. He brings a pragmatic, results-oriented approach informed by senior experience across government, industry, and advocacy.

Raised in Salinas, California, after his grandmother and mother emigrated from Mexico in pursuit of the American Dream, Cameron developed an early appreciation for the role public policy plays in creating opportunity. After years of working abroad, he returned to California more than a decade ago to focus his career on state-level policymaking. Cameron brings a global perspective to California advocacy through experience in international development in Tanzania, as a Fulbright Scholar in Korea, and as a policy consultant for NATO in Europe. These experiences sharpened his ability to communicate, anticipate stakeholder dynamics, and deliver durable high-stakes policy outcomes.

Most recently, Cameron led a 50-state government affairs program for a high-growth health tech disruptor, managing regional teams and advancing strategy across diverse regulatory environments. Previously, he co-led the Technology, Privacy, and Artificial Intelligence practice at a leading California lobbying firm, Capitol Advocacy, and advised venture-backed startups and Fortune 100 companies across technology, energy, financial services, procurement, and emerging industries.

Earlier in his career, Cameron served as TechNet’s California and Southwest Regional Executive Director, directing advocacy across seven states for the nation’s leading tech trade association on issues related to privacy, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, telehealth, fintech, and advanced energy. He played key roles in shaping landmark privacy legislation, including California’s CCPA and CPRA, and led negotiations on Colorado’s Privacy Act. Cameron began his career in California state government, serving in the Department of Finance under Governors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom and in both the State Assembly and Senate. A graduate of the California Senate Fellowship Program, he brings deep familiarity with the state’s budget process, legislative negotiations, and regulatory oversight.

Cameron is an alumnus of the London School of Economics and has completed graduate course work at Harvard University and Korea University. He currently co-chairs the board of an international nonprofit focused on poverty reduction in East Africa and previously served on the board of the Capital Fellows Alumni Association.
